My wellbeing

As Gandhi said “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” So this is where I start with work on my wellbeing. I share the following to demonstrate my integrity in walking the walk.

In order to facilitate this I use my CANBE wellbeing model to plan goals and measure improvements. You can download a free version of this here. (Just request access and I’ll open it up.)

Mentally – I meditate regularly, do daily puzzles to exercise my mind, and work on thinking flexibly.

Emotionally – I check my emotions daily and am working on understanding them much better.

Physically – I exercise three times per week and take regular walks in nature. My sleep patterns are fairly consistent and I get plenty of relaxation. I’m working on eating slightly less and more of a plant based diet. I’m taking a scientifically proven supplement to improve my gut health.

Spiritually – I’m clear on my purpose and have done a great deal of work in understanding my personality, character, beliefs and values. I think I know myself pretty well.

Socially – I’m a family man and take pride in the time I spend with my wife and two adult sons. I have a great group of friends and can access the support I require across all eight domains of wellbeing. I love to help others wherever I can.

Culturally – I have a good way of life. I vote but am disillusioned with some politicians in the UK. It feels like there are too many that are not living up to what the public expects. I believe governance needs to change and I’m doing some work to help that. I’m learning Portuguese and use technology a little too frequently! I volunteer as and offer some coaching services pro bono to On Purpose.

Environmentally – I minimise food waste which is not always easy in a family of four adults. I compost and try to minimise water use through using grey water and a garden water butt, showering and only filling the kettle to what is required. I recycle, buy quality items and clothes that will last; I’ve had some for over 20 years! My carbon footprint, as measured on the Carbon Savvy website, is around 7 – 8 tonnes of CO2 per annum.

Economically – I contribute to others through my coaching, consulting and speaking. I am thrifty. I manage my own Self Invested Personal Pension and invest ethically. I earn enough and have enough for a rainy day. I support entrepreneurs in developing countries through Lend With Care. I am a member of the Wellbeing Economy Alliance and am a Director and Board Trustee at the Network of Wellbeing.
